Minister Robert Tieman Praises Innovation and Collaboration at Europort 2025

Dutch caretaker Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management, Robert Tieman, visited Europort 2025 at Rotterdam Ahoy, where he praised the event’s scale, innovation, and its vital role in connecting the global maritime community.
Speaking after touring the exhibition floor, Minister Tieman described Europort as "mega in scale and rich in energy,” noting the presence of 25,000 visitors and more than 1,000 exhibitors. "There is a clear sense of momentum in the maritime cluster,” he said. "Despite the challenges ahead, I see great opportunities in sustainability and international cooperation.”
The Minister emphasised that the government must continue to foster conditions where businesses can thrive while maintaining focus on sustainability goals. "We have to keep an eye on our objectives, but also ensure regulations support, rather than hinder, innovation,” Tieman noted, calling for a balanced approach to red tape and a level playing field for all market participants.
Encouraging
Highlighting Europort’s strong international presence, Tieman said it was encouraging to see companies working together across borders, especially in a time of geopolitical uncertainty.
During his walk through the exhibition, the Minister discussed short-sea shipping challenges, pointing out the shortage of wharves in the Netherlands suitable for retrofitting vessels. He also expressed interest in the way some companies are adapting automotive technologies for maritime use, calling it "an accessible and promising development.”
With a professional background spanning port management, maritime operations, and business leadership, Tieman said he draws inspiration from the innovation and optimism on display at Europort. "Events like this remind us how much energy there is in this industry,” he said. "That energy will be crucial as we work together toward a more sustainable and competitive maritime future.”
