Wrapping up the SAFETY4SEA x Europort Awards Series, the CAREER4SEA Europort Awards recognised organisations and individuals in the maritime industry that are excelling in areas such as crew welfare, diversity, training and education.
And the winners are….
CAREER4SEA Personality - Dr Bas Buchner, Chairman, The Dutch Marititime Network (NML) for his outstanding contribution to the maritime community. As former President of MARIN and current Chairman of the Dutch Maritime Network, he has been a driving force for innovation, sustainability, and safety in shipping. He played an instrumental role in shaping initiatives such as MARIN’s Better Ships, Blue Oceans strategy and the Dutch Maritime Masterplan towards a net-zero sector.
CAREER4SEA New Generation - Mrs Liana Engibarjan, Captain and Maritime Influencer for her inspiring contribution to promoting inland shipping. As a Captain, entrepreneur and influencer, she uses social media, vlogs, and public speaking to spotlight the industry, challenge stereotypes and inspire the next generation to view inland shipping as a modern, inclusive and dynamic profession.
Crew Welfare Award -The University of Strathclyde, on behalf of the SAFEMODE Project Consortium for enhancing maritime knowledge around human performance through the creation of the Safety Human Incident & Error Learning Database (SHIELD).
Diversity and Inclusion Award - OneCare Group receives the award for offering a wide range of e-learning course aimed at educating maritime professionals about inclusive practices and unconscious bias.
Education Award - The World Maritime University for its global impact in shaping maritime education, policy and research and empowering future maritime leaders through high-level postgraduate programmes.
A vibrant panel discussion between the award winner followed which explored whether the industry has done enough to welcome millennials and Generation Z, with participants sharing insights into what more can be done to support gender equality, improve wellness onboard, and make a career in shipping more appealing and future-ready.
